I have tasted “Sio soba” (Salt ramen) at “Menya Hulu-lu”, a ramen restaurant located in the Ikebukuro Station neighborhood of Toshima-ku, Tokyo. Known for its unique concept and highly rated ramen, this restaurant offers a special cup of ramen in a Hawaiian-themed setting.

The interior of “Menya Hulu-lu” is filled with Hawaiian touches, as the manager is a Hawaii enthusiast. At the entrance, there are posters of “Soy Milk Tantanmen” and “Cold soba”, and you can’t help but notice the wide variety of dishes on the menu. Once inside, a bright and stylish space spreads out, more like a café than a ramen restaurant. The restaurant, which even women can easily enter, is located in a quiet residential area just beyond the bustling streets of Ikebukuro.

The “Sio soba” (Salt ramen) is served about 10 minutes after ordering. The first thing that catches your eye is the clear soup. This soup is concentrated with the flavor of chicken, and the crisp animal taste and sweetness of vegetables are in perfect harmony. The soup has a refreshing aftertaste with a hint of yuzu added to it. The medium-fine, straight noodles are low in water content and have a rich wheat flavor, making them a perfect match for the soup.

“Shio soba” (Salt ramen) is topped with pork shoulder and chicken breast char siu pork. These pork char siu are cooked at low temperature and are tender and juicy. In addition, the pork is visually appealing, with bamboo shoots and kaiware (white radish sprouts) on the side. In particular, the crunchy texture of the kaiware (white radish sprouts) adds to the overall balance of the dish.

“Sio soba” (Salt ramen) at “Menya Hulu-lu” is a dish of high perfection that combines a soup that is chemical-free but has a deep richness and flavor, crunchy noodles, and high-quality toppings. You can also enjoy changing the flavor by adding black pepper midway through the meal, and you will never get tired of eating it until the very end.

“Sio soba” (Salt ramen) at “Menya Hulu-lu”, located near Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo’s Toshima Ward, is a special dish that can be enjoyed in a Hawaiian-inspired restaurant. The rich chicken flavor and yuzu aroma of the soup, the thin noodles with a patty texture, and the carefully prepared toppings are all enticing. When you visit Ikebukuro, be sure to enjoy the excellent “Sio soba” at “Menya Hulu-lu”.
